The brief is the beginning of the dialogue between a client and architect. It is their first real point of contact. However, a brief often gets reduced to a spatial, quantitative programme discussing function and form. What often remains unacknowledged are the many layers that are hidden in the brie£ The layers range from dreams and aspirations to issues of gender, culture, aesthetics, and context. These often remain unspoken and unexplored, resulting in architectural interventions lacking in depth, texture, and relevance. We, therefore, need to re-examine the scope of the brief as the seed, which could help create the architecture of substance. The architect can play a vital role in extracting and evolving a brief that is comprehensive, inclusive and vibrant.

This programme presents three architects, who will bring together different perspectives and interpretations. They will discuss their approach to the brief and their relationship with the client.
