In this lecture well-known artist Satish Gujral will highlight trends that seeded the intellectual, aesthetic and social forces that shaped his evolution as a painter, sculptor and architect. Describing himself as a “staunch believer in the essence of creativity which has roots in its surrounding soil”, he will talk about how tradition and creativity can co-exist without any subservience to the past. The thrust of his argument will also be for a modernity that does not have to conform to Western values but to one’s own. Art and Architecture will share equal time and attention in a talk that will be illustrated with slides covering over four decades of his work.
