Well-known contemporary artist, Amit Ambalal, who has had several countrywide one-man shows of his satirical, tongue-in-cheek expressions of every day living also has an abiding passion for Nathadwara painting. His extensive collection and research of Nathadwara art and the Pushti Marga culminated in a book, “Krishna as Shrinathji – Rajasthani Paintings from Nathadwara,” published in 1987. A comprehensive exhibition of Nathadwara Art from his collection was held in New Delhi in 1989.

This slide lecture, in which the artist will discuss the development of the Nathadwara School in a chronological order along with factors responsible for its distinctive imagery, will give an insight into this important school of Rajasthani Painting through the eyes of a contemporary painter who is also a scholarly aesthete.
