Nalanda Center, Times Foundation, Mumbai

The workshop will introduce basic puppet-making skills in the first half, where children will learn how to make a few types of home puppets (like marionettes and muppets). The puppets are only a device for expression, which is the key aim of the workshop. Most children at risk find it hard to express themselves. Through puppets, the facilitators will enable children to make and build stories within the group and have a little acting-out the stories at the end of it. Expression through story-making is the main idea of the workshop.

Theatre Professional’s Young People’s Theatre Programme takes Drama exercises developed in the intensely-collaborative environment of the rehearsal room, and applies them to the educational space. Timira Gupta and Shazia Jifri are part of this initiative and are passionate about theatre education for children, school teachers and educators
