Little Theatre, National Centre for the Performing Arts, Mumbai

The speaker will talk about transacting plural visions in a post-colonial eclecticism. She will examine Modernism as defined by the West and then present it not as a monolith and uniform happening, but instead, through successive generations of artists suggest alternate modernisms that need to be defined on their own terms. Finally, avant-garde initiatives in India/Asia, in relation to deconstruction of national allegories, transcultural movements, and the formation of new subjectivities will be discussed and analyzed.
