Selving the Body

Surekha, the artist based in Bangalore, will present a lecture on some of her recent works.

The aesthetics of the female experience, the circumstantial identity of the female body a nd the validation of’non-high’ art forms such as craft, indicates to a conscious understanding of feminist ideology in art practice, which is seen as a value system and a revolutionary strategy to express her formal and conceptual concerns. Explorative and experimental in material and medium, the artist maps the trajectories of memory, ritual and desire and commemorates the ‘body-politic’, seeing the self as the source of knowledge and articulating one’s own experience to address issues related to social politics and art.
